I give Sebastian the keys from my purse. Belle writes down my address and gives it to him. He and little Lilly leave to go get settled in. Jack tells him that he’ll call him later to brief him on any plans that are made.

The nurse comes in just after everyone leaves—except Jack—and gives me something more for pain. All the talking made my jaw ache something fierce. Now I feel much better.

There’s a knock on the door and my doctor comes in with a smile on his face and my chart in his hand. “Well, Mel, everything looks great. With the exception of that little seizure when you started to regain your memory, you’re almost good as new.” He flips through the chart, scribbles down something, and rips out a small sheet of paper. He hands it over to Jack. “This is a prescription for some pain meds. You take them when needed—and sparingly. They’re strong and can be addicting. I shouldn’t have to tell you that, being a nurse and all.” He smirks. “You have the choice to stay another night, or if you’d like you can go home today, with the promise of returning if there are any problems at all. What do you think?”

I can go home, already? Well, hells bells. I look to Jack. He raises his eyebrows and smiles. I return his smile. “I think I’ll go home if that’s okay, Dr. Horsley.” I look back at him. “Thank you for everything. I promise to return if there are any problems.”

“Very well, Mel. Take care of yourself.” He closes the chart and leaves.

Excitement courses through me at the prospect of leaving. I fling my legs over the side of the bed and get ready to stand, but Jack stops me.

“Slow down, firecracker. Let me help you.” He grins and stands up. “What can I do for you?” He asks.

I think for a minute then smirk. “You can take that sexy ass over to the closet and get my bag so I can get dressed.” I waggle my eyebrows at him and bite my lip.

He shakes his head. “And there she is. My firecracker is back.” He leans down and places a hard kiss on my lips. Not hard enough to hurt, but hard enough to show that he means it. I accept his lips and push back, nipping and licking with hunger for him.

When he pulls back and turns, I smack his ass. “Get my bag, hot stuff.” I giggle and he chuckles.
